I keep feeling that i need to cut myself again?
-
So im 15 and for about a year i was/have been really depressed and stressed. this all culminated about 2 months ago when i started to cut myself. I quickly developed a sort of addiction to cutting myself. I wouldnt be able to fall asleep if i hadnt cut myself and it really did help with my stress and depression and anxiety. at least for a few hours. anyway about a week and a half ago i managed to go my first night without cutting in at least a month and it was a huge step for me and i have managed to stop myself for starting again. but now my depression is coming back and im sleeping worse and worse (it sort of got better as i cut myself) and i am getting stronger and stronger urges to cut again. only about 3 close friends know that i cut myself, not even my parents know. i want to stop but i have a feeling that soon its going to become to much and im going to have to start again. i do have a few outlets for stress or whatever, i work out, i play rugby, im in a band but none of these have ever been as effective as self harm. at the moment it is only sheer will power that is preventing me from starting again. P.S. There is no way i can tell my parents cos they are a bit old fashioned and wouldnt understand. Also, please dont bother telling me im an emo cos im not. I never cut myself for attention or anything like that. I did it because of the overwhelming feelings i had and i also do not fit any other description of an emo either.

Answer:
I cut myself but i do it less now that i start writing about how i feel. Try poetry or some other type of writing it helps me a lot. Just get a sheet of paper and write, if you don't want your mom or dad to fined it tear it up and flush it. Just give it a try it may help.

I know how you feel. Cutting is very addicting. Im a 15 year old male and cut my self. The thing is im not emo, im not even depressed. I was kind of upset and angry, when i took a knife and cut my arm. I dont know why i did it, it was kind spur of the moment. Since then ive become somewhat addicted to the high you get from the cut. Im also never going to tell my parents as they would completely freak out. I hope your able to get through this, and quit. I know its a bad habit, and can potentially lead to hospitalization or death, but as a cutter of the same age i totally get what your saying. I guess another good thing to do would get support from your friends and try to get ride of as many sharp objects as possible, ie knives, razor blades, pencil sharpener blades etc.. Stay strong, and if things get really bad you might just need to tell your parents. I know how hard that would be, knowing my parents. One thing that kind of works is wearing a rubber band around your wrist and popping that against your arm when you feel the urge to cut. Best of Luck!

's good that you are distracting yourself. Try hiding everything that you use for cutting. Put something around the knives or whatever like a picture of a pet that passed or relative or gf/bf so you'd think twice, knowing they wouldn't approve. Also try limiting yourself to something if you don't cut. Let's say you love chocolate. Have alittle bit after you 'say no' to cutting, or when you resist the feeling. After a while, you won't need the chocolate to stop yourself and you could have it whenever you want. If you have it and you cut anyway, it won't work. The reason this will work if you really try this is because you are tricking yourself. Good luck!
