How to deal with the Asperger Syndrome?

How are Asperger's Syndrome and Schizophrenia similar, how are they different?

  • Answer:

Asperger's is autism related and while there can be problems with understanding social cues and situations the person can learn to 'read" and understand different situations and learn to interpret body language usually because they want to. In schizophrenia the person usually perceives reality differently from everyone else, experiences emotions differently and often the condition needs to be treated with medication. Asperger's can also lessen in intensity through natural means (learning about life, social skills, empathy, therapy, and ways to overcome the problems). My boyfriend has Asperger's and I wouldn't be with him if he weren't who he is. Schizophrenia would be way too much to deal with.

Asperger's is one of the mildest forms of ASD. Whilst it is distressing for the individual, I would say schizophrenia would be more so. Though obviously it depends on which type of schizophrenia, and the severity of it. Many schizophrenic patients can live completely normal lives.
