Why are my goldfish acting strange?

Goldfish Acting Scared/Stressed?

  • My goldfish has been acting really strange since this morning. He was doing just fine yesterday, but today he's been acting scared-like. Last night there was a really bad thunderstorm that was really loud. I was wondering if he got scared with it and just hasn't gotten over it? His fins are close to his body and he stays in one spot; he kind of wobbles sometimes and his top fin kind of twitches... He swims around occasionally and even went up to the top to eat. I cleaned out 30% of his water today and was thinking of vacuuming the bottom to get any left over food particles that sank. I really don't want my fishie to die, but I don't know what else to do for him! How can I help my fish?

  • Answer:

I would check the water for ammonia with a reliable test kit. But not having other background information make a diagnosis difficult. How big is your tank? Is it cycled? How long have you have your goldfish? Are there other fish in the tank with the one that appears distressed? Are you using a water conditioner to remove chlorine from tap water?

is sound like a disease, use an air pump to increase the oxygen levels in the tank and buy a general anti bacterial treatment. do a water change weekly to keep your fish healthy. need more info to be sure of what is wrong so this is just a guess. but you can email me if you need more advise. good luck.
