How to hook up my new speakers?

How do hook up speakers to a t.v.?

  • Im looking for some info on how to hook up any kind of speakers to a t.v. Make the answers simple because I'm not good at techy stuff. The t.v. that i'm trying to hook any type of speakers up to is like a 90s style t.v so not recent. Just a normal non hd t.v. I'm hoping I don't need to invest in a surround sound system because that's way to expensive for what i'm trying to use it for. Anyway the speakers that i'm looking to set up are pretty big, and I'm guessing but i'm not sure if they are "pa" speakers or something like that. So thanks for the help!!!

  • Answer:

External speakers like that usually require an aditional power source in the form of an amplifier. So you would have RCA (white, and red) going from the output behind the TV down to the input of the amp. Then the speakers would be wired into that amp (left speaker, right speaker). And there you have it. You don't need an expensive amp either.

1. Most TVs cannot run any external speakers, so you would need a home theater audio receiver into which you would run the connecting wires to send audio from the TV to the receiver, which then drives the speakers. 2. PA speakers are really BAD for home use. They're meant to fill halls, not make good quality sound in a smaller space. So, this is a Very BAD Idea on two separate fronts.
