Why does a computer screen go black?

Why won't my computer go to home page? It just stays on a black screen.?

  • I have a Dell Inspiron with windows 7 on it, and only recently has it been freaking out on me. IT started out with not letting me get on the internet and freezing, so i went to into safe mode and ran a disk check and after the disk check (which was the C one) it took me to my log in page and i logged in and then it said welcome and went black and the only thing that shows up is my courser with the blue time waiting circle. I have let it sit for hours and it still didn't do anything, and now every time i open up my computer it asks me to run a disk scan and repeats the exact same black screen process after the disk check. I have also tried going into safe mode, command prompt, etc. to try and restore to a later time but it either says error or freezes at the black screen. Any body have any suggestions?

Boot in "safe mode" and do the following maintenance and tune up: Scan with a antivirus program & spyware/malware program to see if there is any unwanted programs. Remove the unnecessary programs and applications. DEFRAG C: & CHKDSK C: ; use external harddrive for all future downloads. Clean up registry problems using Reginout registry manager. If problem persists, back up all your data/ files, as a last resort you might need to fdisk, reformat your Dell Inspiron laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS. But before doing so, try the steps above first. Also, try remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Dell Inspiron laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on. Check if it's something to do with your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and power on your Dell Inspiron laptop with the charger only. ---Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. If power jack is loose you can find laptop power jack on ebay. However, fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill. ---Always, the green/blue LED on charger needs to be constantly on. If not, replace the defective charger. Since battery/ ac adapter has its own lifespan and does not last forever, to help you save up some, you can consider getting a Dell Inspiron charger under lifetime warranty from store like topmic.com Wish the Best.

Hey, If you got a Windows 7 Media DVD with you dell you may have to either repair or clean install windows 7... Obviously there is no other way of fixing such a problem. If your computer didnt come with a Media DVD... Then you can either call dell and order one or make your own. To create a system repair disc: Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore. In the left pane, click Create a system repair disc, and then follow the steps.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Note If you're prompted to insert a Windows installation disc, it means that the files needed to create the system repair disc can't be found on your computer. Insert a Windows 7 installation disc. To use the system repair disc Insert the system repair disc into your CD or DVD drive. Restart your computer using the computer's power button. If prompted, press any key to start the computer from the system repair disc. If your computer isn't configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You might need to change your computer's BIOS settings. Choose your language settings, and then click Next. Select a recovery option(repair or clean), and then click Next. If you dont want to lose all your data then you'll want to do a repair of the system... This will only delete and reinstall windows system files and not access any data... If a repair doesnt work then you will have to complete a clean install... This process is a little harder and will completely delete everything from your hard drive... Windows 7 is easier than Windows XP though

The operating system has corrupt start up system files you need to do a system recovery/restore using the recovery disc set you created when setting up the laptop for first use or use the built in system recovery/restore. Back up all files of importance first by going to safe mode by pressing F8 repeatedly at start up black screen if you can. Dell Windows 7 PC Restore, follow the instructions here http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_362066&isLegacy=true
