Motherboard + cpu and ram question..?
-
i have a A8M2N-LA ASUS mother board, with a amd athlon 64 x2 2.0 ghz 3800+ cpu, 1gb of ram, im wondering if my mother board supports an amd athlon 64 x2 3.2 ghz 6400+ cpu, AM2 socket, because on hp site, im not sure if they update the info of the motherboard, but it says i can upgrade to 5000+ but ive researched n says i can upgrade to 6400+, and to 4gigs of ram if i switch to windows 7 64 bit from a winxp 32 bit. help plz. wondering if my motherboard can support DDR 2 ' 800 mhz' ram memory, for all i know on the site it says 667 and 557/537mhz only, but again on another site it says it can support 800mhz.. how would i know?

Answer:
Usually you can use 800MHz RAM on motherboards that support up to 667MHz. However the RAM will still only run at 667MHz. If you desire to keep this computer for awhile, it would be beneficial to upgrade your memory to 667 if it's currently using 533. You can upgrade to the 6400 series but it's not recommended since HP did not release a BIOS version that directly supports those CPUs and ASUS will not release BIOS for boards strictly for OEM use. This chip is the best one it will support: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Athlon%2064%20X2%205400+%20-%20ADA5400IAA5CZ%20%28ADA5400CZBOX%29.html If you do get it, update your BIOS before you remove your current chip so it will already be supported when you install the new chip.
