Which one should I get 21.5" iMac vs 2.5ghz Mac mini?
-
Which one should i get? Is the imac worth it as it is very expensive compared to the Mac mini? I am not a mac user. This will be the first mac that I will own. I am a student in school and i study IT (Information Technology). I needed a need Computer either a mac or PC. The software that i am going to be using is also available MAC OS. I will not use the mac for gaming as I already have PS3. But can the mac mini and the imac play games (not high end games)? Focusing on the mac mini, can it play games like Need for speed, GTA IV. should i get the iMac or the Mac mini is worth is. I do have a spare monitor but i don't have a spare mouse and keyboard. What is the Mac mini used/good for? Can you do all the things on the mac mini that you can do on the imac when is comes to software?

Answer:
Ok well here is your answer: The iMac and Mac Mini are both very powerful, i think the iMac base model might be a little faster but the Mac Mini has faster model choices. As for gaming, both should run games very well... quad core 2.5ghz with 4-8gb of ram is insane, and even though I'm getting one and only have a macbook pro right now, i pretty sure their graphics cards are good too. All in all, it depends what you have the money for... have the extra $400? Get the iMac... but if you don't the Mac Mini is a great choice. The reason i said iMac over the Mac Mini is because it comes with everything, I'm not sure about the mac mini but i don't think so. Good luck! ;) Contact me on Skype if you need more help: lennedminecraft

The only thing to watch out for in terms of gaming on a mac is sometimes pc games are only available for windows machines. Additionally, mods and updates sometimes are windows only. So, there are limits when it comes to the mac for gaming. It depends on the game really and it isn't the macs fault. It's the game publishers not fully supporting macs all the time. But again, it depends on the game. As for the machines, I haven't used an imac much, but did use a mac mini for a while. The nice thing about that computer is it is so small you can move it around much easier. It's somewhat portable similar to a laptop. Just be sure to give it room to breathe since it blows quite a bit of heat and can burn up if you don't keep it cooled properly (or at least it seems it might). Don't forget, if you are going into Information Tech. both macs are using OSX so you have a legit version of unix on it. There may be times when using the unix shell comes in handy and you will have all the bells and whistles of unix on your mac.
