How do I install sound device on my PC?

My PC turns off when i try to install the sound drivers.?

  • I have a Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz processor & a Trigem 478 motherboard with Intel chip set. When installing Windows XP the sound & network drivers wont install. and when i try to install that the network drivers installation goes well. But when i try to install the sound drivers, my PC shuts down suddenly. When it restarts, it says "windows has recovered from a serious error". so i disabled the sound devise & installed the driver. After installing the drivers it asked to re-enable the devise. but when doing so, again the PC restarts. this happens frequently & now i cant enable my sound devises. Please give me a solution fast. My sound devise is AC97. Thanks

Are you sure they are the correct drivers?? The best way is to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website, search for the drivers there, usually around Tech. Support / downloads, you have to know if it is XP home or Pro, 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System. what type of sound card, realtek or what ever AC97 is not a sound card make, just a year of manufacturer. If it is a zip file save to a folder, download winrar ir win7 zip to unzip, once you extract you look for a setup.ini or setup.exe file the it should install ok, for it to crash there is an incompatibility so your using the incorrect drivers??

If your audio is built-in, you can download the driver from the motherboard's manufacturer site.If you cant find the driver, you can try driverfinder program which will automatically search for latest driver of your computer.

I would tell you to visit Trigem's website for support, but they've either bought the Averatec brand or Averatec bought them out; either way, it's a website for Averatec now, with no trace of Trigem's motherboards on it. I'd recommend just buying a cheap PCI or USB audio adapter in your situation, and leaving the integrated AC97 audio disabled.
