Which speaker setup to use to fix my audio issue?

My desktop speakers must have a short in them because one of them has no sound. This is unnerving especially when listening to music which utilizes both speakers, sending different sounds to each speaker. I notice when listening to music on iTunes that many sounds I'm used to hearing in songs are no longer audible. If I go to Sounds & Audio Devices in the Control Panel, can I change the speaker setup so that all audio comes through just one of the speakers? FYI: I'm using these basic Compaq speakers connected through usb. My monitor doesn't have speakers of its own.
