Why my volume is gone from my computer?

I can't change the volume on my computer?

  • Okay. So you know how on Windows computers, there's a little icon on the taskbar that you use to change the volume? Mine's gone. Kaput. RIP. This has happened once before but it reappeared in a few days. It's been a week and it's not shown up. I went to the control panel to find the setting for what you see on your taskbar. The option for having the volume icon there is grayed out and set in the "Off" position. It's not because the administrator changed privileges-- I'm the only user on this computer and I've made sure that I'm an administrator. I'm not part of a network, either, so that can't be it. Also, no, there's no button on my computer that I can use to lower or raise the volume. At this point, if I want to change that factor, I've got to go into control panel to do it. Any suggestions? This is irritating me to no end.

  • Answer:

Go back to 'Notification Area Icons' and un-check the box at bottom left that says 'Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar', make your changes then recheck box, and click OK.

well first what version of windows do you have? vista, 7, XP? probably doesn't matter but my answer might be a little different than what you are seeing. click the littlle up arrow to the right of the icons and the click "customize..." that should bring up a little window. then on the right column there should be a speaker icon. to the right of it hit the drop down menu and then select "show icon and notifications" that should fix it for a vista/7. if you have an XP(cant imangine why you would) then get back to me.

Something like this has happend to me when the sound was accidently deleted So if you don't find a different way to fix it just do a system restore.
