Question about Sims 2 installation.

SIMs 3 & Expansion Packs Question: Is it safe to delete those "EA Help" Files found inside Support" Folders?

  • I recently installed the Showtime Expansion Pack for the SIMs 3 however my installation did not go so smoothly... Halfway through the installation an error message came up saying that the "sound_card.html." file on the installer disk seems to have been corrupted & that my DVD (the game installer) might be broken. I was kind of disappointed & a bit frustrated about it so I just ignored that one file & the installation finished without any other problems. I then ran & played the game for a while finding no repurcussions to the game so I closed of the application. Afterwards I browsed to where said file is supposed to be located which is C: > Program Files (x86) > Electronic Arts >The SIMs 3 Showtime > Support > EA Help > no (for Norwegian). Looking at the file I see that it is just some random HTML file with nothing on it (the file just loads up a blank screen on a web browser). I then started looking on other language variants (still on the EA Help sub folder) & I find out (from the eng-uk (UK English language) folder that the file should open up a small article talking about setting hardware acceleration on a sound card on your computer. But the corrupted file isn't loading said article written in Norwegian. Further inspection on other Expansion packs, Stuff packs & the Main SIMs 3 game led mo to the discovery that every EP, SP & the main game has copies of the contents on the EA Help files but on each EP, SP & the main game's folder. Now because each EP, SP & the main game has the same hep files I just copied the "working" "sound_card.html" from the main Norwegian help files folder to the one for Showtime & all is well... But this lead me to think that multiple copies of the same files feels so much of a waste.... so now comes my question for the day.... Seeing as each Expansion & stuff pack have EXACTLY the same EA help files (that are really not that much useful at all) I was wondering if it is safe to delete the copies for each EP & SP & just keep the ones on the main game folder to free up some space albeit it'd be just a hew MBs to be exact? Or will doing so will cause some problems in running/playing the game in the long run? I am considering having my installer disc replaced though if you guys are wondering :)

The program may or may not be corrupted. It may be that you haven't had to access a corrupted function. Your best bet is to uninstall, delete the program files folder for the game and re-install the program. If your disk is corrupt, then get a replacement first.
