What Is Cooperation?

What are examples of cooperation and competition among the species in the savannah?

  • Answer:

Have 3 of each...I include geographic features that exist within the grassland biome Cooperation - Egrets and many herbivores, parasites removed by the bird, a good turn for the herbivore and a meal for the bird - interspecific - Zebra and wildebeest alert each other to the presence of predators facilitating escape action - interspecific - Meerkats post sentry guards that lookout for predators and other dangers and raise an alarm to warn others within the social group - intraspecific Competition - Hippos and crocs for a decent stretch of river or pool i.e. living space - interspecific - Lions and hyenas for food resources and living space (both hunt wildebeest for example) - interspecific - For an intraspecific example, you could nominate many species as they compete for reproductive access to females, elephants for example

Because survival has long depended upon the strong survive, the weak fall by the wayside. Competition is an offshoot of this. The winner takes the spoils, He who dies with the most money wins. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. These and other sayings express the natural tendency of man to show his superiority, since we no longer have to fight for the biggest piece of the killed mastodon to eat... If there were only give and take, nothing would get accomplished. As for today's new things being redundant, perhaps so, but since everyone needs to eat, have a roof over their head, and raise a family, a means has to be provided for them to do that. So redundancy provides a means of creating jobs for the ever increasing masses of people on this planet. What do you expect people to do in order to feed and clothe themselves and their families is everything is just "give and take?" How would technology ever advance, or medical care improve for millions that way? Competition is what enables these things.
