HALP. Should I move to Canada or Germany (Berlin)?
-
I have the opportunity to move to either Canada (basically anywhere I want!) or to Berlin, in Germany. I'm 26, female, and I'm going alone (apart from my dog :) ). Any recommendations re: choice of destination? Any advice? I'm kind of terrified because I'm going alone and have no idea about either of these places. I have to move to either of these locations for work, but I'm also going to be studying part time at a University, as an international student (haven't researched which schools to apply for/ how much this is going to cost yet, either!). I currently live at home in Australia, I've been back here for a few years now (after living in London for a few years) but it is DEFINITELY TIME TO LEAVE AGAIN! I'm living in my home town (Brisbane) and it's actually getting really depressing. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated! :)

Answer:
UK reply. If you speak some German and will take concentrated courses you would be OK. If not a big problem as most Germans don't speak English. Southerrn Germany is beautiful, Northern lots of hard working factory cities! Berlin is "interesting" but would not move there! Canada can be wide open spaces or another metropolitan city! Guess as you are moving for work you would be going to a city. Personally didn't like Toronto as to USA city copy! Loved Vancouver and the wide open spaces all around. Given the choice of Berlin or anywhere in Canada............ Canda wins hands down!

First things first. When you start researching the requirements for a Work permit for either Canada or Germany (Actually anywhere in the EC) and find it's impossible you realise that it's just wishful thinking. It's not going to happen.

I would pick Canada - no language problem - less government regulations as Canada is a commonwealth country and Germany is not - Vancouver is a great city (hint hint) - Aussies and Canadians have lots in common, not so much with Assies and Germans
