How much pseudophedrine can you bring from Canada to the U.S.?
-
My allergy medicine, Drixoral (which contains pseudophedrine), was discontinued in the U.S. a few years ago. Since then, I've been paying through the nose for it from an online "Canadian pharmacy" (which aren't really Canadian in case anyone wondered). Anyway, I know it is still made and sold in Canada as an over the counter drug and not for ridiculous prices. My husband is going to Canada for business soon and he wants to buy me as much as possible to bring back. I know in the U.S. we have limits as to how much we can purchase at a time, but Canada doesn't. Say he wanted to buy me like a year's supply, would it be legal for him to bring it back to me? I know people go to Canada for cheap drugs all the time, but I don't know about drugs that are regulated by the government. Does anyone have any credible info? I'd really like to not pay $30 for a box of medicine I used to pay $7 for. Thanks!

Answer:
Have you tried Claritin or Zyrtec? Reason I say that is because it is illegal to import substance containing ephedrine into the U.S. and is specifically spelled out in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act 21 USC ยง 952 - Importation of controlled substances. I think a box or two may slip by unnoticed, but a years supply worth, if caught, will be difficult to get out of. Just because they are sold OTC in Canada does not make them OK to bring into the U.S.
