Can your job fire you for sexual harassment accusations while not on the job nor made by a co worker?

A few days ago my boyfriend was accused of sexual harassment in the parking lot of his job, but he was not on the clock and wasn't suppose to be in for another few hours. Here's the story: On his schedule, it said he was suppose be into work at 6am, he walked all the way to work (We don't own a car at the moment and his job is up the street) just to find out they changed his schedule to 12pm without notice, he was exhausted and tried to hitch hike a ride home, he asked the first lady that came out of the store and she told him "No sorry, I don't give strangers rides plus I'm going another way" He said "ok" and walked away, the lady got in her car and drove away then 10 mins later came back and went back into the store calmly like there was nothing wrong, she even glanced over at him, my boyfriend didn't think much of it thinking she probably forgot something, so with no luck he just started to walk back home. Around 9 - 10am he got a call from his job to come up there quick, he had a friend drive him up there to find out that when the lady came back and went into the store, she went to file a sexual harassment report against him. She claimed that he was asking her all kinds of sexual personal questions and making vulgar hand gestures but little does she know, their parking lot has cameras and the tapes were sent in, all of his close co workers are shocked and know that this is all a huge lie. His job didn't fire him nor did they suspend him, they just made him write a report and let him continue to work (even the same day after it happened) and that was the last we've heard of the situation. Now the question is, Can his job fire him for sexual harassment accusations if it wasn't made by a co worker nor was he on the clock? He has a squeaky clean record, and has lived with women all his life, he respects me and all women and everyone who knows him knows this is completely out of his character. Btw we are in the state of Georgia.

The supposed events would have taken place on company property or close enough to make it a hostile work environment for the "victim". Since a charge was made, the company was obligated to investigate and to get statements from both sides. That helps to protect the company against a suit claiming that it did nothing to protect employees against harassment. It also supplies a record of her and him to see if there is a pattern. That is, does she make this claim against many employees; does he seem to get close to crossing the line often.
