14 years old- Babysitting jobs in Santa Clarita, California?

  • Hello, I am a 14 year old lady who lives in Santa Clarita, California. I have tried finding babysitting jobs online but nothing is suitable for a full-time student who cannot drive. I am a straight A student who is taking Geometry, Spanish, and Enriched English as an eighth grader. I have taken care of baby cousins and family friends since I was 7 years old. I love kids and have taken an online babysitting course. I am a trustworthy, respectful, intelligent young lady. Most jobs require hours that I am in school, doing homework, or at dance. An occasional weekend job is what I am looking for. But, as soon as summer comes, I will be able to work more hours. If you need a babysitter, or know someone who would need a babysitter, please answer my question and I will contact you.

  • Answer:

Go to the YMCA and take a CPR for infants and work in the nursery or Children's Corner (where the infants hang out while their parent(s) workout). From there some of the parents may take a liking to you and find you trustworthy enough to be asked to babysit their children. Oh, by the way, you'll have to pass a vigorous background check. You are taking care of infants and kids so it's for everyone's best interest. The best to you.

A good website for things like this is Care.com. They have pages and pages of people needing help with babysitting, or pet sitting, and for the most part, they don't require you to have a certification. All the really need is just someone trustworthy to take care of what is needed. They have new postings coming out almost every week and the only problem I have with the website, is they usually won't get back with you for a couple weeks or more.

Why not talk to your school's guidance counselor's office? I worked through high school in retail jobs that were arranged by my school in a program called "distributive education" that not only got me a work permit but had job leads from local employers. I worked in sales, inventory, cleaning, and whatever else needed to be done. I got money, school credits and life experience. Get to your school's guidance office before someone else beats you to it.
