Why is the skin on my finger tips peeling?

The skin on my sons fingers and toes are peeling really bad. what could this be?

  • My son is 2 1/2yrs old. The skin on his finger and toes are peeling off. Literally chunks of skin peel away. I took him in to be seen and they told me it was a side effect of steep but never diagnosed him with strep. Now where skin has already peeled away is starting to peel and his finger tips are red. What could this be? Should I take him in for a second opinion? We've been using gold bond motion and it helps slightly..,

It could be eczema or kawazaki disease. . . I will suggest You visit a Dermatologist. See experience of other parents here. http://ehealthforum.com/health/topic39393.html

It can be due to the application of Calamine lotions used to relieve the itchiness of Chicken Pox. Dead skin normally peels off, and for some people, it comes off very visibly every year around late summer or autumn. Your son might not be drinking a lot of water, plus the weather is rather dry too. It is not something to worry about, and this will be over very soon, just keep applying the moisturizer and preferably cold cream. My father's skin would come off like this every year, and so did mine, but then it stopped with the use of creams and drinking enough water.
