Why does sex cause UTI's?

Could my boyfriend get a UTI from giving me oral sex? Can a nurse/physician please offer adivce?

  • My boyfriend and I had anal sex and oral (vaginal) sex (unprotected) a month ago which resulted in him getting a UTI. His symptoms began with a very bad sore throat, a kind he had never experienced before and a few days later a burning sensation when he urinated as well as discharge. That makes total sense. He was given antibiotics which he took as directed, the entire course and its probably been close to two weeks since he's finished. This past Friday we had regular, vaginal sex and oral sex as well (unprotected). This morning he woke up with that same unbearable throat pain. Could he possibly have a UTI again? I know it is hard for men to get UTIs in general but considering we did not have anal sex, what could cause it yet another time? Because of the pain in his throat it makes me wonder if something is wrong with me down there because it seems liek the oral sex caused this now and last time. I haven't experienced any symptoms to my knowledge so I'm not sure what is going on. Should I go get checked out? I'm trying to get him to go to the doctor again but he's saying he cannot blow another $400 (no insurance) which I understand. Would the doctor possibly just prescribe antibiotics without seeing him again since it seems like the same thing? NOTE: We have been together for over 5 years now and we have only had sex with one another, so an STD is out of question. When he saw his doctor regarding the former UTI, he was tested for STDs and he was clean. He was diagnosed with a UTI. Thanks!!!

  • Answer:

No offense, but have you ever tried using protection. Anal sex without a condom is unsanitary, and probably painful...well, it should be anyways... Maybe you should go get checked out for yourself. What if he cheated and doesn't want you to know so he told you that he was clean? If its not STD related, obviously he is sensitive and gets UTI's from unprotected sex so maybe you should start using condoms? They're a lot cheaper than $400 doctors visits..

You cannot get a UTI from GIVING oral sex. That makes no sense. How exactly would that happen. That's like when girls ask if they swallow can they still get pregnant.

Ask him why he doesn't want to give you an oral, maybe he had bad experience the last time he did it? Try telling him that you want give him the privilege until he does his part.
