Why can't I taste or smell at all after a cold?

Why does deep into my nose into eye hurt so much and i cant smell or taste?

• have been fighting a sinus infection for 6 weeks now.Face pressure,headaches,dizziness.Ive been on antibiotics,sprays,meds,netipot,and a mist nebulizer. All these symptoms are gone. But now i cant smell or taste a thing,after 2 weeks. My left upper nose,deep up there into my eye hurts. I saw an ENT who went way up my nose and says there mucus up there,even though im not stuffy.He feels this is causing the loss of smell because up there is where senses are? Can he be right?I know hes the DR,but im in pain up there,deep into my nose on the left.

  You probably do have a lot of mucous build up. My daughter gets it all the time but it's so far up she doesn't feel stuffy or have a runny nose. It does mess with your taste and smell too. And if you have mucous packed up that far, you're going to have a headache, pressure and probably sharp pain behind your eye also. Also, if you clean out your sinuses to much, you can seriously dry them out which will also mess with your taste and smell but your doctor is probably right.
