Why do they throw live crabs or lobsters into boiling water to cook them?

Answer:
You can buy whole frozen lobster and crabs at supermarkets, but they don't taste as good as those boiled alive. In my opinion, that's the whole reason we cook them that way; it's all about us and what we like and has nothing to do with being more humane and nothing to do with poison.

I don't think they release a poison. The meat just goes bad very quickly once they are killed. Boiling them alive ensures a fresh meal. There is nothing wrong with killing them with a knife. Just cook them right away.

It would be inhumane, and ineffective to try to kill them with a knife because of their thick shell. Smashing them would ruin their meat. I don't know if they release poison or not, but i do know that they die within seconds of hitting the water. Don't worry about them, the "screams" that you here when boiling them is nothing but air pockets escaping from holes in the shell due to the increase in temperature.

yes, if you kill them they release a poison, so you have to boil them so they dont know they're dying

They spoil very quickly. That is why they are cooked alive. I place mine in the freezer before I boil them. It puts them to sleep and is more humane than dropping them in alive.
