Where can I take/ get into PT school pre-req classes after I have my bachelor's degree?
-
I want to attend Physical Therapy school next year but I still have 5 science classes that I need. (Physics 1 &2, 2nd semester chem, 2nd semester biology, and physiology). Now that I am getting my bachelor's degree next month, I have no priority to get into the science classes at the local community colleges and to attend the state schools, I would have needed to apply months ago (which I did not). I planned on taking these classes at the university that I am currently attending before graduating, but due to rising tuition and decreasing financial aid, I decided to graduate earlier than planned and look elsewhere to take these courses (rather than take on an additional $30,000 loan for another year at my current school). I already have a lot of student loan debt, and although I am prepared to take out more student loans for graduate school, I am trying to minimize the debt that I take on prior to that. Any suggestions would help. I am currently in California and would prefer to stay in state, but I am willing to go out of state to if that is what it will take, I just need to get into these classes within the next year if I am going to be eligible to get into physical therapy school in the fall of 2013.

Answer:
I am a PT. I would definately recommend cc. It will take you a year to take the courses. You just might have to wait a year or a semester. Look at your gpa. If you are lower than a 3.0, pick a different major. If you have a 3.0 to 3.5, you will need to excel in the science you have left. If you have better than a 3.5 you should be fine. www.apta.org

See if any of the PT schools you're considering have a Post-Bacc prerequisite program. These programs are designed for students with a Bachelor's degree who are going back to Graduate School in a field different from their BA, and just need to complete a year's worth of courses (usually part-time). It may be too late to apply to anything other than a community college for this year.
