How to enjoy a hard college life?
-
I love college overall. My professors are overall compatible with me. However, it is very hard for me. I cannot seem to make friends with anyone at all. I've never really had friends, so I'm mostly used to being alone. I miss high school for specific reasons and have a hard time refraining from missing wonderful moments in my past. I also have trouble enjoying life even when I shouldn't. I'm frustrated and my only therapy is writing. What are some ways to deal with this depressing time until things get better?

Answer:
Find a group of people to study with, if you want, make it a game to see who can come up with the right answers. This will encourage two things, interaction and also help you with your studies. Secondly, don't procrastinate, push yourself during the week to accomplish all your goals...but the weekend is yours. Go out!!! If you fail to accomplish your goals during the week, you don't get to go out. Positive reinforcement works wonders.

I was in a similar position as you back when I first started going to college. For like the first two years or so, I was really, really depressed. But unlike yourself, I did not reminisce about the past. I found that the reason for my unhappiness was because I went to a college that was close to my hometown, and naturally, so did a lot of the people I graduated high school with. I was still seeing those same people every day in college, just like I did in high school, and I wasn't friends with any of them. I don't know if you're experiencing anything like what I did, but what I can tell you for sure is that you need to take action or else things will just stay the way they are. Don't look back to the past to find your happiness - work towards future happiness.

Ok, ok. I kno, I have an extremely long list of things and it may seem daunting, but these next several moments may change you in ways you never thought. And I command you, sir or ma'am, to read this or the sake of goodness >:D Well, maybe it depends on the type of classes you're taking. It also depends on your interest level. Are you a positive person with an active mental capacity? Is there at least one person you can tell you're having a hard time, open up, and be social with? For me in the last 6 months, my confidence was very low, and when I was younger, I had very few friends. During these times, I was extremely quiet, shy, and my social skills were a tad awkward. I was scared to talk to people and lost connection with some friends due to not talking much, but then, after making a pretty good friend recently, who's extremely sociable and open-minded, I found my old self again - like from 6 months ago. It's amazing once you do this, because you see many possibilities that you thought you wouldn't think or even be able to IMAGINE! I mean, the world is beautiful, all you have to do is start by finding at least one person to start opening your heart to. If that's all you got for a while, then don't worry. One person to talk to in the world is better than being by yourself, just look up, it's all around you :D btw I noticed my memory, caringness, savviness, and confidence improved dramatically. And remember, time management is key. This has always been one of my biggest issues that I am still keeping under control. I am managing great as of right now, but it hasn't always been that brilliant, or easy. I was a diamond in the rough for pretty much my whole childhood! Just remember also that if you get what you need done or get the help you need (dorm mates, professors, classmates, etc) that you'll have the time to do what you wanna do. Another good thing is if you aren't already, you should get a job or join some clubs. Clubs can enrich your life, while jobs will enrich your wallet ;) you'll have some more spending money, independence, and better yet, being able to buy whatever you want! Just remember, don't spend it all in one place. And above all this, just chill, Just go for the ride of life, and it won't be as short as many say. Chilling gives us clear and peaceful, happy minds. If you need it, try being spiritual or use meditation. Well, I hope these ideas helped you, because they sure helped one of the most socially inept and awkward kids ever...
