What is the mercury bulb?

Mercury Vapor bulb burned out, is there any way of making it work?

  • My teacher has an old Mercury Vapor bulb, that he pulled out, because it was burned out. He says there is a special way that can make it work. Please help with this problem, and the ballast was not working before. He is saying there is a way to make it work WITHOUT a ballast. What are some tricks that can make this bulb work? Thank you!!

  • Answer:

if the filament is still intact then you can make it work. the ballast is really only there to light the bulb initially (Start it) You may get it to work with a high voltage source (the same way you can make a Fluorescent bulb work.) (induction)
