How long would human live if mitochondrial damage is stopped?
-
nucelus of cells have better repair system then mitochondria's however when mitochondria goes bad it starts a chain reaction ultimately cause the whole cells its dignity....its true regardless of damage from mitochondria dysfunction damage would accumulate over time however how long would it take...i am asking because someone said that if mitochondria werent to happen human would age like in 800-1000 years is cells own repair system really that good. If not then how long... simply put if we minus the negative effects of dysfunctional mitochondria, i.e. by fixing it through some means, how long would it take for cells to wear out in human years.

Hi! I tend to think about things like that as well. I have a bit of research experience on the topic, so I gave it a go to think up a reasonable answer. I posted it up on my blog since it's a bit lengthy. :) The basic summary: We would probably live longer, but mitochondrial damage is only one factor that may contribute to aging. If we've saved from one aging factor, there are still potentially many others that will kill us before we can make it past the ~120 year longevity limit. (Our average lifespans are increasing, but our MAX lifespans tend not to.) http://www.brainlings.com/2012/04/mitochondrial-damage/ Hope this helps!
