How to get tracking number for a parcel?

• Someone from Australia recently won an auction to my old Nintendo 64. I was very pleased with the price (£47, not including P&P obviously) and I'll be dispatching his parcel tomorrow. However, since it's something he paid quite a lot of money for, I want to get a tracking number for the parcel. Problem is, I don't know how. Whenever I sell stuff on eBay, I usually give the letters/parcels to my mother and give her the money to go post them. I ask to ALWAYS get a tracking number as well, but she always get angry and says it'll cost a lot. I honestly thought it wouldn't cost any more than £5, but she says it does. So all my previous, cheaper things, have always been posted without a tracking number. But I REFUSE to post this one without a tracking number and proof of delivery. So how exactly do you get one and how much does a tracking number for a parcel from the UK to Australia cost?

  Mail the item yourself, that is how you deal with this. Tracking numbers make shipping more expensive and might even make this shipment nearly as expensive as the amount you received for the item.
