How long does the Harvard law school program last?

Harvard Law school applicant questions?

  • Ok so Lets say I earn a BA from One of the top ten UK universities. I earn Jt honours BA in History and Archaeology. Am I applicable for Harvard Law School maybe a llb or an llm? which, if either, do I have a chance at.... what I'm saying is this.....If you graduate from a community college in massachusetts with a degree in sports medicine you cannot expect to apply to harvard law school graduate program and get in. Would a highest marks joint honors degree in history from a top UK university like Cambridge...fair well in harvard law? Could a person apply for a masters program in harvard law with it, or should a person use the degree to just get a bachelors from harvard then continue on to his or her masters?

  • Answer:

Law schools in the US don't grant the same degrees as they do in the UK, and the degrees might not be applicable to the other country. US law schools grant JDs. You need a bachelors degree to apply to law school. Sports medicine requires an MD and residency; about 12 years of college, not 2. Everyone applying to Harvard law needs very high grades and great LSAT scores. Law is not a masters degree, and going to Harvard for undergrad doesn't give you any better a chance of getting into their law school. You'd still have to apply.

Hey captn, That Bachelor's in Sports Medicine, with a high enough GPA and LSAT score, most certainly can expect to get into Harvard Law School. Those two numbers play a very large role in the law school admissions decision, much more so than major and undergraduate institution. As to your question, degrees earned from foreign institutions are treated differently than those from the States. Your GPA will be much less important, and the LSAC (the company that handles the admissions process) will convert it to a different scale that won't factor into the school's medians/rankings. It sounds like your hono(u)rs will translate well in the process. Applying for an LLM/LLB is much different than the regular law schools process, and I'm not as familiar with it. However, you would certainly be qualified to apply, and your application would warrant consideration.
