How much does a bus seat cost to repair?
-
Recently my son received a bus citation for allegedly tearing an inch long tear in the seat on the bus. When I was contacted by the principal by phone, he said I would be receiving photos of the damage and an estimate for repair. I rode the bus at school for ten years and I've seen all manner of seat repairs from vinyl to tape and thought to myself 'how bad can it be'? I received a bus conduct report in the mail this weekend stating my son had caused property damage with a small plastic dart with a metal tip. My son and several other students claim another child damaged the seat with a razor blade and I was even told by the principal that this boy had slashed up the seat he was in. At any rate, I know how kids are and want to teach my son about responsibility since it was his seat and he did have a sharp object. I don't have an issue with the seat repair. I have an issue with the rest of the report that states "I have researched the cost of the repair to the seats from the bus company and it will be $55.00. The check can be made out..." $55 for an inch long cut in a seat? Wait, it says SEATS! There was no photos, estimate or proof of said research attached. I was attempting to do my own research on the cost of repair and have only been able to find that vinyl bus seat repair tape is about $17 a roll and an entire kit for vinyl repair is about $155. Should I dispute this? Does anyone have a better estimate for seat repair? If it truly costs $55 to repair an inch long cut, I will pay it but I just don't believe that.

Answer:
Just make them put some duct tape over the tear like they would do had he not been caught. Common sense should prevail and you shouldn't have to pay that much. At most, maybe $10 to stitch it up... Good luck.

This whole scenario sounds bogus to me. For one thing, schools don't own their own buses. Schools use buses from a County bus barn or contract their bussing out to various different bus companies. Those entities will have their own insurance to cover such incidences and I've never heard of a school principal being involved with negotiating repairs of a bus seat.

You hap to paid what they ash for. Or you could be taken to court on other charges. Which you don't want to happen. You don't repair it. It cannot be repaired it. The cover has to be taken off removing it from the bus. It is recovered with a new clover and reinstalled in the bus. If they go with the tape you are luckly. Cause the bus is out of service till seat goes back in for safely concerns. The kid can exspelled for a number of days. Can be bar from ridding the bus as well. You will hap to take the kid to school and pick-up. It cost more for a rust repair to keep the bus in service. If it was my kid, world grounded to learn to learn a lession that tearing school propley is wrong. The school could had filled a police report and had you pick the kid up.
