How do I become a better street canvasser?

I have recently been put on review for the upcoming week, and I need to raise at least $150/day to keep my job. I really care about these issues, but I have difficulty getting people to give me contributions for the cause, and ultimately getting them to trust me enough to take down their credit card information out on the street. How do I overcome these challenges? I really need to be able to keep this job!!!
