How to change screen resolution?

How do I change my screen resolution without being able to see my screen? HELP!!!?

• So, for some reason my Windows XP computer was extremely magnified into the screen, and I thought that changing the screen resolution would help. I right-clicked my desktop, and clicked on the NVIDIA settings thing. I stupidly changed the resolution to something ridiculous, and my screen goes black and I am completely blind at my computer. I tried mashing F8 at startup, but I have no idea if I went into Safe Mode or not. I tried many guides telling how to blindly change your screen resolution, but none worked. My PC has a bunch of pop-ups at start up I always close, maybe that's why. If this helps, my screen is a SyncMaster 206bw. Please help me! This message is from my laptop, but I really need to use the desktop.

  your on the right track. mashing the F8 key is the best thing to do. long story shortwhen computers start up they all behave differently thinking back about all the computers ive had to get to safe mode...i dont know the precise moment when to tap it so im pressing it pretty quickly -bam-bam-bam-bam-bam--bam-bam-bam-bam-ba... you will know if your in safe mode because mashing the F8 key will bring you to a big black and white menu where you choose what type of safemode you want. pick the type of safe mode you need. in your case either "safe mode" or "safe mode with networking" then it will load windows but it will be just a bare ugly basic windows....no accessories, and in a VERY low resolution. from there you select a resolution that you know your monitor can handle. then when you restart your PC and load normally that is the resolution your PC will tell you monitor to display.
