How do you figure out what you want to do when your older?

How to figure out what you want?

  • hey guys so I have a problem where I have no idea what I want to do or where I want to be. I am studying in grad school in another country and not really happy with the subject. The weather here is also terrible. Anyway I have been in complete chaos lately. Literally everyday I change my mind about my future. One day i want to move to hawaii, the next California. One day i want to be a biologist, the next I want to work with cars. I have never really had a real job, my parents always told me not to and to stay in school and i feel like that has caused alot of problems with the lack of freedom and responsibility. My best friends told me to just to quit grad school, move to California where they live (and I used to), get a job and live on my own and figure out what I want.. I did jump into grad school early although i got a bachelors in a crappy field (european studies) which is why I am doing my business masters.. I feel like my friend may be right about taking a break, what do you guys think? The closest thing to a passion I have now is cars for sure though. I also love being active and swimming in the ocean and doing outdoors stuff.. Not sure what the best route would be to take in order to find my calling.. thanks for the advice guys!

  • Answer:

Dump grad school if you don't want an MBA. Or, you can take a break and later pick up where you left off. Move to the Gulf Coast instead of CA. It's much cheaper and you still have your outdoors; or head to the Keys. Build a life of your own and invite your friends to come visit you. Another possibility is to get certified in ESL and teach. This can give you a day job with 3 months off in the summer. During that time, you can hone your mechanical skills and still enjoy the outdoors. Then you have the option of becoming a mechanic or not. DO NOT spend the rest of your life doing something that does not make you happy.
