Difference between Asperger's Syndrome and Social Anxiety Disorder?

  • Hi, I just wanted to know what is the difference between Asperger's Syndrome and Social Anxiety Disorders? I've it searched on the internet and I got confused because the symptoms are similar, and I don't know what I have: I am kinda scared of social situations, I get anxious for no reason, I can’t make eye contact properly, or sometimes I avoid it because I don't want people to notice that I am feeling anxious or scared or consider that I am weird or something, well now it got a little better because I try to focus completely on what the person is saying and not on the eye contact itself and I try to go out more in social situations or else I find it gets worse...I try to accept my anxiety and love my faults…I mean some days are better, some worse...I am aware there is no known cure for this, but it definitely can get better….but as I was doing some research on this topic I found out about Aspergers Syndrome and now I am confused...So I have this (anxiety?) problem for a year or two. and I am 23 know (I am a girl, forgot to mention).. I read that Asperger is something you are born with, but, on the other hand, the symptoms can develop later in one's life, so they also can feel anxiety in social situations and can't make eye contact properly, so they are also “socially awkward”....Can you light me up a little bit on this matter? What is the difference between the two conditions?

  • Answer:

Aspergers Syndrome is condition (that have social skill problems, have an obsession of interests, lack of eye contact, difficulty of understanding tone voices, facial expressions and gestures, starting a conversation can be very difficult to do) and most boys have it and are born most in kids and grow into autistic adults like myself. Some girls can have it as well. I'm a 21 year old guy with Aspergers and diagnosed with it since I was a kid. Some adults may develop into it when they grow up. Social Anxiety Disorder is a condition anyone could develop into after being anxious around people in the public or crowds in their daily lives. I also have anxiety as well as I feel uncomfortable around crowds and unpleasant people who make you feel bad. Do you drink a lot of coke? If yes, cut down on the caffeine as it does increase your stress and anxiety levels. I knew that and I even cut down sometimes and drink water to decrease my stress and anxiety levels. Also try to sleep more as well to help your condition and feel less stressed and anxious to be more focused on what to do about it and feel more comfortable. .
