What does a civil engineer half to do with a nuclear power plant?

  • I'm doing a science project on what a certain person in a certain job feels about putting a nuclear plant up in my city. I got a site manager and my teacher said that is a civil engineer, but I have no idea what either one of them are or what their feelings are on putting up a nuclear power plant. When I Google it it just comes up with how much they make or how to become one. So what does a civil engineer have to do with a putting up a nuclear power plant?

    Any nuclear plant has a wide variety of engineering disciplines involved. Civil engineers would be involved in the design of the large amount of concrete and structural steel. As site manager, an engineer regardless of discipline would be responsible for all aspects of cont ruction from seeing to it that all materials and equipment are available as needed as well as the labor force necessary to erect or install the various pieces. The site manager would also need to assure that all of the quality control aspects are done properly. This is a big item for nuclear plant. Much greater than on any other contruction project. Think of the site manager as the conductor of the orchestra.
