How do you become an extra on tv/film?

How Can I become an Extra in a movie, such as "catching Fire" ?

  • hey! I dont have much acting experience at all, aside from plays. but i was wondering how one becomes an extra in a big movie such as the second hunger games movie, catching fire. Im willing to sign with agencies in order to become an extra in this movie, and im close enough to where the movie is being filmed that location won't be a problem at all! Since there normally aren't big movies filmed in my area, this is really my only big shot. anyone have any good advice for becoming an extra in catching fire, and maybe even getting an auditino for someone like Delly in Mockingjay? Thanks so much<3

I'm going to tell you what the other answers did not tell you. Being an extra is not a "big shot". Extra's are considered to be human props and to put that on an actor's resume is a bad idea. Secondly, the only one to become an extra on a movie set is to sign up with an extra's casting agency. You will have to audition and takes some headshots and then they will put you on their list. There is no guarantee you will be chosen to be an extra for that movie. Sometimes you never get called. Casting agencies send a list of the number of extra's they need and what they are looking for and your extra's agency goes through their list of "talent" and then they submit the people for the movies. From my experience, usually when actors do work as an extra is to earn some extra cash on the side, get a glimpse as to what its like to be on a movie set or T.V show set, or to network with some other extra's on the set. Lastly, Usually actors are only notified of roles for main characters through agents. If its a high budget movie you know they will only go for their A list stars first. If you want to try out for a movie look out for open casting calls in your area. These are deeply hard to find, but that would mean anyone and everyone can audition for the part regardless of experience or training.
