How does someone break into a new technical field?

Could a paintball crack and break the lens on the mask and cause injury/blindness?

  • I just wanted to know how strong the mask's lenses are and what are the chances if someone gets hit in the eye that the lens will break. There are many types of lenses, I assume, so just to make the question easier, how would a cheap mask's lens hold up (the masks that you can rent at the field). And at what distance? And let's say it was using a sniper paintball gun (I assume it is the most powerful). Please don't answer that it is rare that you get shot in the head. My question assumes that you have been shot in the lens.

    Paintball masks go through very extensive testing to make sure that they can hold up against what they are made for which is taking an impact from a paintball. Most of these masks only have a minimal requirement of taking a 350fps hit but most brands will make sure that their mask and lenses can take a hit well over this requirement. If the paintball gun is shooting at its required speed of 300fps then the mask will take and withstand the impact without damage but to be safe it is advised that a person change out their lense whenever a direct impact from less than 10 ft hits the lens. this is purely for safety resons because there is a chance that the lens will not take another similar impact, again it may or may not take another similar impact. So to sum things up it will take and withstand a "regulation" paintball at its "regulation" speed so no need to worry.

Goggle hits are very commom. Of course it is possible. Not sure how often, but it has happend. As the lens ages, it gets more brittle and weakens a bit. And with small cracks in the lens,that would only increase the chances of a lens failure. The more times a lens takes a direct hit, the more likely a lens will at some point fail.

I have taken three shots to a rented mask at the same time and nothing happend. they get good maskes because they dont wanna get sued or watever might happen. they also replace the maskes after a while so it dosnt happen bottom line it could happen but there is sucha small possibility.
