How do I make a sculpture with foam core?

Can i make a mold?????????????

  • Answer:

There are two kinds of common molding rubber - the cheaper one is more time consuming and involves painting on multiple layers and letting each one dry/set - latex rubber - read more here http://www.mikegigi.com/modeling.htm#LATEXMOLD I have done foam with latex using spray fat as the separator which doesn't affect the foam as some others might. The other kind involves mixing two parts and pouring the result into a container around the object to be molded. The more common is silicone rubber but there are urethane molding compounds. I have not worked with them - there are video on the internet show it. If you were to mix up enough to dip, the remainder would also set, being very wasteful and costly. No product I am aware of will give you a useable mold by dipping into a coating and taking it out. There are rubber products out there that a dip coating - like for putting rubber on screwdriver handles or adding electrical insulation. But this rubber sticks tenaciously and does not stretch enough to get off an object without doing damage if the object is foam or other weak material like clay.
