Can ipods get free ringtones by text?

Okay, so I got a new CD, and it's from an older band, and the CD was made in 2008 (in case you were wondering, the band is called "Tokio Hotel", great band, look 'em up). So, I opened the CD case to listen to the heavenly voices, and found one of those "text this number to get free ringtones" piece of paper. Being the fan girl I am, I immediately tried to text the number they gave me with my iPod app for free texting, it said it didn't recongnize the number, which made me really sad... :( I then tried the messager Apple made, it also didn't work. So, basically, my question is: "Can iPods text numbers to get free ringtones, or do you have to buy them?" Thanks! Any answers would be helpful!! :) Oh, by the way, the number they always tell you to text, why is it only 5 numbers long? Shouldn't it be at least 7? :) Thanks!!
