Lump in in my fingernail, why?

  • A few days ago, my index finger fingernail began hurting. I checked it the next day, and in the middle it was red. I woke up that night to the middle of my fingernail being cracked open, and a little lump rising up from the crack. The lump is very red, and has veins all over it . It has gotten a lot bigger since then, and hurts like crazy. it has begun to throb uncontrollably since a few hours ago. i am considering going to the emergency room, but wanted to ask you guys if you knew what it was before I go and spend $800 plus dollars. I NEED THIS ANSWER ASAP. the pain is beginning to become uncontrollable. (i am typing this with my left hand)

    Did you smash it under anything? If so that's probably why. I would probably just go to my reg. doctor before I ever went to the ER.
