Can I get paid for mandatory training?

Do you get paid for basic training?

  • Answer:

Yes you will get paid. Your training will not be for 2 months or less. Your BCT will be 10 weeks then you will go to your AIT (time will vary based on the job you get). But plan on being gone for 5 months to a year in the beginning for all your Initial Entry Training. Here are the 2012 pay charts. Your pay will always depend on rank and time in service http://www.military-money-matters.com/support-files/2012-military-pay.pdf There are special pays as well. If you are married you will also get BAH and Fam Sep pay while you are gone.

You can look at the official link below for the military pay charts. It has both what you will be paid during your drills and what you will be paid during your active duty for training periods. When you are on active duty for training you receive the same pay and benefits as an active duty Soldier. Titania got nearly everything right, but I will clarify that BCT is nine weeks long though you have your travel time to and from and you will spend 3 days to one week in a Reception Battalion for inprocessing. And you won't likely go straight to AIT as you are a Reservist. Expect to do BCT one Summer and AIT the following Summer.
