26 Year old college grad joining army, maybe Officer program?
-
So, I know nothing about the army, but I'm interested in becoming an officer. I'm currently unemployed(surprise, surprise) and have mounting student loan debt. I'd rather serve respectfully in the Army than do the McDonald's management training program. <--- I can't believe that's actually an option for me..smh. I want to have a job that requires my education, that's why I spent money on the worthless thing. I have a double major BA in Political Science/ International Relations and Communication Media I've been down in the dumps lately. I'm 26 and I'm jobless. It's demoralizing feeling like you fell for the ponzi scheme they call college, and having student loan debt up to your eyes. I feel the Army could be a way of rediscovering who I am and what I am capable of. What should i expect? What kind of curriculum would we go over? I know OCS is different from college in many ways, one being it's fast paced. It's somewhat concerning because i'm the types of student that took a lot of time for things. it takes me a little longer than most, but I've always had grades that rivaled my colleagues. I am terrible at math though. And to be honest, I know nothing about maps...pathetic, I know but I never had any practical use for them. As far as Physical Fitness goes...I'm sure it will be grueling. I cant do a single pull-up but i'll work on that. I'm about 30 lbs over weight but that's okay too. I'll loose the weight. I start a exercise program Monday. Any thoughts and suggestions would be awesome. I'm going to schedule and appointment with a recruiter, but I'd like to be up to par with what to know and watch out for. I hate to be suspicious of the recruiter but they are salesman, and it's to be expected. ***I have student loans too. will the army help me out with them? Also** I have to ask. Let's say I go to the OCS and I mess up and they don't accept me because I'm failing at everything and I just don't got what it takes. What happens then? It's my understanding that when you do OCS you're enlisted. Would I just get demoted or something and do something crappy for 4 years? I heard someone say that you would get sent back home as a civilian too, but I thought you have to be enlisted??? Thoughts PLEASE haha I've got tons to learn about this so please refrain from army jargon or***Abbreviations and Acronyms*** Thanks a lot The Dude Abides haha
