Why do I have cramping after ovulation?

Could cramping during ovulation be a good sign?

  • Let me re-word that by explaining.... So last week I started cramping REALLY bad, like my period was coming n e day so I took an opk (ovulation test) just to see and sure enough it was very +. However its not 5 days past ovulation and I am STILL cramping just as bad but the ovulation tests are now negative. Could this be possible pregnancy?? I am having no signs of my period...just wondering if n e one else experienced this and were preggo?

  • Answer:

Since the cramping started before you would have been pregnant, it doesn't sound like it is pregnancy related. This does not mean that you aren't pregnant, just that the cramping is most likely caused by something else. There are a lot of things that could cause cramping. If the cramping went away for a few days and then came back, it could be, cramping can sometimes signal being pregnant. I never experienced it personally but I have heard of some ladies feeling it. You'll have to tough it out and wait until your missed period, then take a pregnancy test, to see if you are pregnant. Cramping during ovulation when you normally don't could be a sign that you released more eggs than one, making it possible (but not guaranteed) to conceive multiples. Of course the cramping could be caused by your digestive track or a new exercise routine, or several other things. I wish you the best luck. Hope you see that double line in a few weeks on a pregnancy test!

It is said that cramping during ovulation and even during implantation if the egg is fertilized is perfectly normal for some women. It is also usually associated with the onset of menstrual cycle. In your case, cramping went on even after your ovulation. This could mean other medical conditions that could be causing the pain like swollen fallopian tubes or the growth of ovarian cysts. The best thing to do is to consult your OB-GYNE to determine the real cause of such cramping.
