What do you guy's think about the 3-5 formation ? Football?

  • Hey guy's im Nick i play defensive End im a returning sophmore in highschool football , im having some concern's with the new defensive cordinator at my school , he just came form the best private school in the county they have went to the playoff's the last 4 years , i mean i like him but i dont like his strategy. Ive played Defensive End throughout my football career i love the postion and im going to be starting with fulll play time this upcoming year . Now this coach wants me to play LOLB instead of defensive end , i honestly think im too slow to be a line backer and i have no experience , so like what the hell. Im 6'4 , 195 , squat : 300 , bench:165 clean :175 my 40 is :5.21 and im 15 Now for the real question why the hell would you run a 3-5 defense in high school when it's primarly a run game sport throughout gradeschool and high school , 3 lineman and 5 linebacker's it sounds kind of sketchy to me . . .? And then this guy wants me to be a linebacker ? What in the hell??? I mean i like this new coach but sometimes i worrie and think things might not work out and im not being greedy about what postion I want to play either i just think if you put me at End , i can help my team to the fullest of my abilitties. . . Well tell me what you guy's think about this new defensive formation. AND should iu just play linebacker or should i try to tell my coach that i dont feel comfortable with that postion. Appreiciate all the help guys!

    Do what your coach says. It always works out better. I once Moved From 4-3 Defensive end to 5-4 Linebacker a few years back. Ive stayed with linebacker ever since. Trust me you will like it way more.

we ran this my sophomore year of high school and it was just dreadful. But we did change to it after a rash of injuries by around week 2. This can work, but only in high school and the linebackers will be more like a safety/LB combo because there's just too many bodies up front to use traditional role LBs

You better buy into what your coach is telling you, or the winning stops this season. IMO, I don't like single safety schemes, but they probably run a lot more in HS...just do what the coach tells you to do, or you might find yourself out of a spot.

It is basically the same as the 5-3 only the OLB, where you most likely will play are standing, it gives the defense a better chance at surprising the offense, but it takes more discipline of the defense, not just run to ball kind of mentality. Although you might be a great fit at the DE in this scheme I think he wants you to be at LB because you are too much of a play maker to have at the DE, the DE in the 3-5 is mainly a run stuffer, I think you could work at OLB.
