How do I easily add speakers to my car audio system?

Information on getting a car audio system installed?

  • I'm 16 and I've been saving up from work and other things and I want to get a good car audio system. This is all new to me though. I listened to rap and yes I want my music to "bump". I've done some research and mostly understand what I need. Speakers, amplifier, Subs, sub boxes, receiver. What is the most inexpensive method? Also, what kinds of places do it for me? Do I pay them for a package of the things I need and installation? Or do I provide my own accessories and pay for installation. Please answer all my questions. Maybe add some other helpful tips too and exactly what I might need to buy?

  • Answer:

Your best bet is to shop. You may be able to get a good package deal including installation/accessories, or you might be better off buying equipment and accessories and having a shop do the install. You absolutely will be able to find a better price on equipment online but the caveat is that you have to know what your buying so that everything will work together. For a complete novice I would say go to 10 different shops literally, tell them what you want and your budget and see what they can do for you. I have done sales and installs at different shops and I can tell you there are people who don't know what they are doing and people who see you as a dollar sign. Be sure to ask questions and have everything explained to you in detail, if they don't have the time to do that then you don't have the time to spend your hard earned money with them. The reason I say go with this approach is because it takes some experience to get audio right. You can put pieces together that will power up and play, but it really takes some experience with the actual product to be able to put together systems that will be greater than the sum of their parts. Good luck.
