What are the origins of the Easter bunny?

How ro explain 2 your 7 year old cousin tht the EASTER bunny is NOT real?? HELP?

  • So my little cousin who is 7 (she lives with us now) just came to realization that the Easter Bunny is not real and she flipped out!! See what happened was me and my 2 other sisters ( im 16 my older sis is 19 and my 13 yr old sis) were talking about when we was younger and memories from Easter... Well My lil cuz came in the room and we didnt realize she was in there... Well my 13 yr ole sis was like yeah i remember when you told the Easter Bunny wasnt real... She was tlkin about when me n her was snoopin in my moms room and found our easter baskets full of candy and i told her it wasnt real ( i was 12 at the time and she was 9..) So my cuz came out and was like Wat the EASTER BUNNY IS NOT REAL!!! then she started goin hysterical crying screaming saying she has been lied to her whole life blah blah well me and my sisters were like um... calm down Meagen and i was like listen Meagen the easter bunny isnt real but its not a big deal just chill well she just cried and screamed WHY IS THE EASTER BUNNY NOT REAL WHY DID EVERYONE LIE TO ME MY WHOLE LIFE IVE BEEN LIED TO!! HOW COULD YALL DO THT TO ME?? then she ran 2 her room and locked the door... She refuses to talk to us and I called my mom and she flipped on us.. she said we were NOT suppose to tell her... So my mom is like well i cant get home till 2nite cuz shes at my younger sisters girls scouts trip so shes like YALL HAVE 2 DEAL WITH IT... SO WAT ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO????? How do you get a 7 year old to calm down after her older cousins completely ruined her beliefs in everything?? WAT ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO?? HELP PLEASE!!! MY MOM IS SAYING I NEED 2 TALK 2 HER SINCE I JUST CAME RIGHT OUT AND TOLD HER POINT BLANK HES NOT REAL!! My cuz is 7 and she is living with us cuz her dad lives in New York and has a really busy job and cant watch her so she moved in with us about 5 months ago see her mother died in a car wreck 7 months ago and her parents were divorced so my mom was like well we can raise her... so she moved all the way to NC just to live with us.... She is still very childish... Like she still believes in Santa, the Easter Bunny, Tooth fairy etc... Her therapist tht she sees at school says she is behind like instead of thinking and stuff like a 7 year old she is more like a 4 or 5 year old... They said it was caused from the traumatic experience she went through, with the death of her mother and everything, SO thts why my flipped so much cuz she doesnt really understand i guess...

  • Answer:

First, let her have some chill out time. She clearly needs it. But when you have a chance to talk to her, tell her that no one was "lying" to her, they were just making easter magical for her. Tell her that just because she knows the easter bunny's not real doesn't mean that she can't have a fun easter...she'll still get a basket and do all the easter traditions that you guys normally do. Good luck :)

Jacob-Tommy-Bella and Lisa's mom...

7 is too young to take something like that away from her. you need to figure out a way to make it seem like yall were lying or just making up a story.

Best thing I could think of to do is to tell her like Santa Clause. It's make believe. It's all for pretending and playing games. She probably plays make believe with her friends and it's the same thing. It's nice to pretend that a cute little bunny brings us goodies on Easter. But that's all it is. Just pretend. That mommy is really the one who surprises her with lots of goodies. That's about the best thing you could do now. Come clean with her. The 'cat' is already out of the bag. No sense in trying to put it back in. Just explain things the best you can. *This is why my children will never believe in the Easter bunny or Santa clause. Playing pretend or not. I don't ever intend to tell my children what I believe to be a lie.. As far as my kids go. Santa & the Easter bunny are just for pretend play.
