What kind of amp do i need for these?

What kind of amp do i need for my subs?

  • i have two 12" subs in one box and it is not ported They are sony xplods and this are there stats » 12" 4-ohm subwoofer » five-sided polypropylene cone with foamed rubber surround » power range: 90-380 watts RMS (1,300 watts peak power) » frequency response: 18-2,000 Hz » sensitivity: 89 dB I think i need a 400 or 500 watt amp but i want to be perfectly sure before i buy a new amp for them. Im Confused on if i have to add the 380w twice making 760w so i need a 800w amp? or if a 400 watt amp can power both at the same time comfortably Thank you for all answers!

  • Answer:

Since you have two 380 watt RMS subwoofers you want an amp that can push at least 760 watts. Also, your wiring with those subs will give you a 2 ohm load. http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2SVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg So look for a monoblock (single channel amp) that can push around that wattage at 2 ohms. I recommend hifonics, alpine, rockford fosgate, or kicker. Hifonics is best for a budget though. This amp is just about perfect, 750 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. This is what you want. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43128_Hifonics-GLX1000.1D-1000W-RMS-Class-D-Monoblock-Gladiator-Series-Amplifier.html P.S. Don't get a 2 channel amp, they are less efficient and with your subwoofers you would get a 4 ohm load which would make them not as punchy and you would need a much bigger amplifier to give you 750 watts @ 4 ohms. Hope this helped good luck
