Question for car sales people-?

I have a question about buying a car in Florida and their sales tax?

  • I understand that if you buy a car out-of-state, you still end up paying your state's sales tax when you register your car. However, in Florida, each county has their own sales tax. I live in a county with 7% sales tax, but am interested in a car in another county with only 6%. Will I have to pay the difference just like I would if I had purchased a car out-of-state?

  • Answer:

No. The state sales tax is a flat 6% across the whole state. Some counties impose there own additional sales tax, like the county you live in which has a 1% tax making a total of 7%. Regardless of which county you make the purchase in you will still be paying the 6% sales tax to the state.
