How do you make an eye model?

How should I make a human eye model?

  • It's for a high school project. I do NOT have to illustrate the parts inside the eye. (In other words, the model is not about eye anatomy) In fact, the only thing bugging me right now is the eyelid... I have all the eyeball and pupil done. Does someone have an idea of how to make a realistic eyelid (that can open and close) ? It will be best with paper because I need to write on it :) Thanks!!

  • Answer:

I imagine your eyeball is spherical. The problem with using paper is that it can be only folded with curvature in one direction, and the eyelid, like the eyeball, is spherical, curved in both directions. You might try making one of paper-mache. if so, you could wrap the eyeball in saran wrap, and then apply the paper mache. The saran wrap would keep the paper mache from bonding to the eyeball. Once dry, revove th paper mache, remove the saran wrap, then re-pin the eyelid back over the eye. Or, if your eyeball is made with, say, a ping-pong-ball, you might cut a section of another ping-pong ball that would nest over, pivoting w/ a pin joint each side.

mark c has some good ideas. You might try vinyl fabric and stitch the folds where needed. It could slip around inside the eye socket so as to be able to move it. 'Hope this sparks some ideas for you.
