How do you replace Ubuntu 11.10 with Windows XP on a netbook?
-
My netbook (an Acer Aspire one D250) came with Windows 7. After something involving it becoming corrupt and with no recovery option available, I installed Ubuntu 11.10. However, I now want to uninstall Ubuntu and replace it with Windows XP, however whenever I boot from a WinToFlash USB drive I get a STOP (blank) blue screen error, or if I set the SATA controller to IDE mode I just get "3waredrv.sys not found". If I boot from the XP CD through a USB CD drive I get this thing: STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll regardless of whether the SATA controller is in AHCI or IDE modes.

Answer:
What is the STOP error when you boot off of a USB? That should be the way you should be attempting to install this, faster and more reliable. Try a different version of Windows XP, like professional, or Media center edition. Also, what version are you attempting to install? EDIT: Okay, then let me ask this, how far along the installation process did you get before you got an error? Or did it just error immediately during/after loading? EDIT 2: It seems your netbook's BIOS or device drivers may not be compatible with Windows XP . I had a netbook I tried every distro of Linux on, none of them would install. You may just want to either stick with Ubuntu, or install Windows 7 again. Those are your choices. Edit 3: I just thought of this, what is your hard drive/USB drive formatted as? If it's not NTFS, that may very well be the cause. In any case, I'd like to help troubleshoot further, but I have to go to work. Ciao for now~
