Mental Health jobs, nursing, medical field?

  • im thinking about what job i want when im older and the Mental Health topic really interests me. im only a sophomore in high school right now but im starting to look at colleges and im trying to decide what field i want to go into. i would like to work with people who have mental disorders.. i don't mean people who are slow or have birth defects im talking about people who are crazy or mentally insane. i have NO idea what type of jobs there are that involve this lol thats why im asking you guys! what type of good paying jobs involve this and what are some good colleges to look at. im also interested in nursing & the medical field. i just need some ideas or suggestions on what type of programs i should look into.

Those type of jobs really suck, but that's just my opinion. I can handle eating disorders or people who are bipolar, but the truly mentally insane? That's too much. Nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, nursing aides are some that work in those hospitals or locked down units. Do you really mean mentally insane? Not people who aren't completely all there, the people who aren't there at all. I am an EMT and I have transported some of the people who are in the locked down units and they aren't there. I am not referring to Alzheimer's units, these are the true crazies. It's not like Girl Interrupted or One Flew Over a Cuckoo Nest or whatever that movie is called. Those movies make it seem rosy compared to the people that are really in there. Most are harmless, but some aren't. Seeing a few nurses beat up or scratched up is not pretty. I used to think it would be all nice and rosy, but I've seen the actual insides and it's scary.
