How To Write An Example Resume?

How to write a friend or family member on a resume as a referance? ?

  • Its a bit hard to explain. I need more references on my resume and have a family member to put down but im not so sure exactly how to write it? For example i have the name of a former manager on there i wrote his name, number and the workplace i was at. Now for the family member do i put his name, number and just write personal referance? Or how would i go about that?

  • Answer:

Well you shouldn't be including references on your resume in the first place. You should wait to provide references when and if they are requested and prior to providing any reference, you need to contact the potential reference(s) ask them if it's ok if you use them as a reference for a job and if they say yes, let them know the name of the company and the position you are applying so they can be prepared. Google how to provide employment references.

Unless a family member has been a supervisor or company manager, you should never use them as a reference. Using friends is risky unless it is for character references only. Try instead to use teachers, church members, former coaches, or a responsible party for other activities. Employers are much more likely to give more weight to what they say than friends or relatives. Also. before you list anyone as a reference, make sure to ask them first. It is a nasty surprise to get a call from a prospective employer when not expecting it. And, your references should not be part of your resume. At the very bottom of your resume, write, References available upon request. Then make a separate sheet of references only. And make sure it is available when asked. A prospective employer is not happy if you have to tell them that you don't have your references with you.
