How does one become an accountant in the UK?
-
Hi, im currently in the final year of the marketing degree course im doing. I had an A in maths and C in business studies for GCSEs. However due to my laziness at A levels, i only barely passed both. So what are the routes i can take to become an accountant? I would have chosen a more closely related degree course if i did better at A levels but regretfully I didnt.

Answer:
Anyone can become an accountant in the UK without prior experience of or training in accountancy. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (one of the professional bodies) will award you the ACA (the basic professional qualification) if you have worked as an accountant for 3 years and have taken the necessary exams. Therefore, to become an accountant you simply need to apply for a job with an accountancy firm. The firm will take care of your training and your exams. In 3 years, assuming you pass, you'll be qualified.
